Anthology Explanation & Goals
An Anthology is most commonly associated with a collection of short stories combined as separate chapters in book form. These chapters are most often related by theme or author, but not always.
In our case, this Anthology is a collection of Genealogical Data Files with a heavy focus on, but not limited to SW Virginia, SE Kentucky, parts of North Carolina, Ohio, and Tennessee. However, while we focus on the Appalachian Area in general, like any genealogical project, sooner or later it begins to spread out across all regions of our United States (or further) as our families move in or on for various reasons. As we all know, unless you are of American Indian extraction, your ancestors came from somewhere else, and our research becomes world-wide. When these researchers pass on, in most cases, their research dies with them
This Genealogical Anthology Team consists of Gloria Kay Vandiver Inman and a varying number of genealogists,family researchers, and family historians, ranging in age from 16-90, with research experience varying from 1-50 years each. Except for G. Kay, Almost all the rest of the team members are temporary as they come into our lives. .
The need for this Anthology arises from the nature that is inherent to genealogical research. Every genealogical researcher has, over the years, accumulated a wide variety of primary source records and other priceless data, some of which did not prove to be of value to their particular projects du jour, but I have yet to meet a genealogist who has ever thrown out that data. But the children might and probably will when we are gone !!!
This media is intended to be a single outlet to store, preserve and prevent our life's work from being lost or destroyed when we no longer have control over it. This media will present all this data in an organized fashion that will hopefully be useful to other family historians and researchers now, and for many years to come. It is intended to be our gift to the Genealogical Community.
